Research/Drug Discovery
Fluorescent Probes
Novel Long Wavelenght Fluorescent Reagents: Combinix is designing novel long wavelength / near-infrared (NIR) fluorophores for biomedical imaging and fluorescence-based high throughput screening (HTS) assays that is widely used in new pharmaceutical / agrochemical discovery. Longer wavelength and NIR dyes operating in the the 600 - 900nm region of the electromagnetic spectrum have great advantages over the traditionally used short and medium wavelength dyes and are currently in great demand. Such dyes show a much improved signal to noise ratio in HTS than existing dyes due much lower interference / light absorption by bio-components. Biological tissue is more transparent to NIR light than to shorter wavelength light making the dyes ideal for biomedical optical imaging in a variety of medical disciplines including oncology where it would allow early stage detection of very small tumors.
Diabetes
Stroke
Combinix has ongoing drug discovery programs in Diabetes and Stroke. We are working to discover small molecules to combat type II diabetes in collaboration with the University of Alabama. This project is based on excellent lead compounds to a known biological target that promote glycogen synthesis in the liver from blood glucose.
We are collaborating with UCSF (the University of California San Francisco) to discover highly specific NADPH Oxidase inhibitors designed to prevent/treat Stroke.
